The best home remedy for rashes – tried and tested

March 14, 2016
Baby rashes

DD was a fall baby but in Dubai it was still quite sunny- so initially I gave her a lot of air time and kept her in cloth diapers that were changed every time she peed or pooped ( obviously!!)- this kept the baby rashes at bay. As it became cooler, I was forced to keep her diapers which gave her the most horrible rashes!! In desperation, I tried everything- from DIY’s to ointments but nothing seemed to work until I came across this gem. It was an instant hit!!.

Step 1

Remember to change diaper when soiled or every 3 hours, wash clean the baby with water if possible and if using wipes- use them un-perfumed, sensitive and alcohol free so as not to irritate baby’s gentle skin.

Step 2

Dry baby with soft cloth or air dry. Make sure to dry skin folds as well.

Step 3

Mix 2 tsp mustard oil ( yes it has to be mustard!!- others didn’t give me the same results) with half a teaspoon water. This will dilute the oil – of course they won’t mix so swirl it before applying. Mustard oil is anti-bacteria and anti-fungal which helps in the treatment of rashes and other skin infections.

Step 4

Sprinkle some cornflour to keep the oil in place. I give this a miss and still works perfectly well for me.

I apply this at every nappy change and Thank God, DD has been rash-free so far. As it gets warmer, I will switch her to cloth diapers again (yay!).

For quick reference I’ve added the infographic for treating baby rashes.
